Elise Willa Pincu Delfield
To Elise, there is nothing better than creating a meal from locally raised foods (preferably from her own garden) and serving and eating it from a variety of handmade pottery. Each pot brings its own story, as if her table is filled with a variety of friends to help enjoy the meal. She hopes her pottery will sit amongst others on your table, enhancing the pleasure of the food it holds and the company in which you share.
Pincu Pottery is hand-thrown with earthenware clay, a rich, red-colored clay that is the color of the soil here in the mountains of North Carolina. A white liquid clay, or slip, is then applied to parts of the pot to help brighten the colored glaze. Some parts of the pots are left exposed, showing the beauty of the earth. Nature plays a large role in her inspiration for both the design and decoration of the pottery. Once the colored glaze is applied through dipping, pouring or brushing, the pottery is fired in an electric kiln to around 2100 degrees Fahrenheit.
