Lauren Dillon
I have actively produced art for more than 20 years, primarily working with oil on canvas, and oils with mixed media such as wood, foam, metal and found objects.I came to clay in 2001, and having no experience with this medium, I had little hope of producing “art”. After about a month of experimenting, something magical began to happen. I feel an intimacy with the clay that allows me to look within myself, at my memories, experiences and dreams. The characters I create are inspired by these reflections. I also draw inspiration from my surroundings in the form of physical objects, either from nature or man made. These objects are beautiful in and of themselves. They provide a history to the pieces, a sense of time and place.
In my work, the two driving forces are the process, and the stories that evolve during the process. At times, the pieces begin with the clay, and other times, they begin with the object.
