The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER rating is an important measurement to find when looking at the air conditioning system you want to utilize. The SEER rating is a ratio of how well the unit can work based on its energy usage.

The SEER rating is calculated by taking the amount of energy used in a cooling season in BTU and dividing it by the number of watts that were used by the system in the same season. This produces a rating that figures out how well the air conditioning unit works.

A newer air conditioner is more likely to have a higher SEER rating than an older one. You can expect the newer model to work with a rating of at least 13 or 14. These totals are the minimums required for use among many of today’s models.

Air conditioning technology has evolved to where today some models can produce SEER ratings of 21 to 25. This means that the AC unit is more efficient and will produce more cool air while using less energy in the process. But the AC technology in question should still be reviewed based on how well it works. You should be able to get a higher SEER rating on a newer model for your home.
