JOHN M. McCANDLESS John M. McCandless was born in Rutledge Pa. He was the youngest son of Wm. J. McCandless nationally known pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles. He attended schools & college in Swarthmore, Pa. And Philadelphia, Pa. As a child he loved to paint and his abstract yearning started in grade school painting water color and finger painting. Color line and texture was something he loved and never got over. Hence, a great colorist and contemporary abstract artist today. lie later moved to Chad Ford, Pa. Close to the home of Andrew Wyeth - although he was not a detail or portrait artist, he enjoyed watching and learning a lot from Mr. Wyeth. John M. McCandless life is extraordinary. A man with many talents Beside being an artist, he owned three galleries, one in Naples, Fl. Two in Charleston , SC., two gift shops, art consultant movie actor, pilot, builder developer, interior decorator, art publisher, floral designer, realtor, repair broken pottery and the list goes on. Today his paintings arc serious, rhythmic, provocative and full of line and texture front small 3/4 x 1% to larger contemporary abstract 4’ x 8’. The originality of his paintings (using his left hand) are gorged with light, color and texture and arc expressed with a powerful and energetic style, strict association, figurative and the abstract. His paintings are in banks, corporations large food firms in the Midwest and the collection of former President Ronald Reagan. Commissions are gratefully accepted any size up to 4’x 8’.
