Commissions are a pleasure in so many ways. I enjoy working with clients to create a piece of art that is exactly what they want for a specific location in their home or office.
| This piece was completed in 2008 for a client in Studio City, California. His ultra modern home is crafted with concrete, iron, and steel. All these hard materials needed an element of softness to reduce the coldness. Woven entirely in double woven linen, there were a total of 38 warp chains, each dyed a separate color. With this many weft colors as well, the complexity of design and color is very lovely. To complement his interior, I had a metalsmith create a bar of copper for top and bottom to hold the weaving in place. The copper was imprinted with the actual texture of the cloth by using a rolling mill. This entire piece measures eight feet square. |

This is my biggest piece yet. It is 5 panels, each 3 feet wide by 5 feet tall, for a total of 15 feet wide. It too is doublewoven linen, and here I am with the hand dyed warps and wefts ready to go on the 16 Harness dobby loom. Actually the loom had to be warped 5 different times, as each panel's design is completely different from the rest. Once off the loom, areas were blocked off and painted, with a great deal of stitching added as well as handpainted canvas and paper.
This piece is at home in the greatroom of The Pisgah House, the residence recently completed for the Chancellor of the University of North Carolina, Asheville campus.
